Howdy!

I reckon it's time for another brief update. Friday I got back from my outback tour. It was absolutely, completeley, totally an awesome time! Everyone got along so well, and I got to know lots of people! (if you catch my drift...) LOL J/P! (sorta) hehehehehehe Well, I had a great time! Unfortunately, though, the first night we had to leave our shoes outside (it was a small town in the outback) and, of course, with my luck, my tennis shoes got stolen! It really sucked because those were my hiking shoes for the trip, but I did have my shopping shoes with me. It hurt so much though. Damn stupid drunks that took my shoes. I only hope someone is actually wearing them right now. Maybe it was a dingo, though. I hope that dingo it wearing them.

The rest of my trip was really good. We visited Cober Pedy (the opal capital of the world) and other small towns. We also camped in a swag under the stars at Uluru and also another night at Kings Canyon. It was freezing weather outside too! But everyone survived. And the last night we were all together was in Alice Springs. There was a big party for all the Adventure Tour groups, and lots of free beer too! :) It was great!

I was the only American in the group too. The majority of the group was from the UK. There were 2 girls from France, a guy from Switzerland, another guy from Germany, my friend from Germany too, a girl from Japan, and a girl from Korea. I think that was everyone. The tour guide lady was really cool too. One of the guys from the UK brought his guitar, and we had a good time singing around the campfire. He was a great musician. He played a few of his own songs too. And he also serenaded me in the bus one time too! I really enjoyed that trip. :)

Tonight is my last night in OZ. :( It was really hard saying goodbye to everyone. I still have to say goodbye to two friends in the morning. They have been letting me stay at their apartment for the past week. I spent my last day here shopping for gifts for you! But I also had a wonderful massage in the morning, and also a painful leg wax (I would never recommend it). My suticases are packed to the max, and everything seems to be organized. I just have to get myself off the couch in the morning. Can't wait to see everyone soon! Have a great day!

Well, bloody f*in hell! Stupid internet crap machine. I just wrote a long journal entry and right on the last couple sentences it did some crap thing and exed out that screen. ARGH.........

Okay...

A bit better now. Still in Adelaide, and it's still an okay city. There's a cute shopping centre nearby, that has lots of fresh fruit stands and cute clothes, and I even made a bracelet at some bead shop.

I visited the Barossa Valley nearby. It's absolutely lovely! It has some of the best wines in the world! We took a tour of 4 of the vineyards there, including Jacob's Creek (you may have tried it, they export a lot of wines to the US). I drank lots and lots of wines. It's a nice feeling to drink wine during the day. The tour guide was very friendly and hilarious. He spoke to me a lot about Texas and he was always teasing everyone and telling jokes. We were also allowed to drink alochol in the van, since he held a liquor liscense for the trip. :) We also played some weird games on the way back to the city. Like this one game, where there was a rep from both sexes. Each had to smell different bottles and guess what the smell was. For each wrong answer, they had to take off a piece of clothing, and for 2 correct answers they could put an article back on. It was great, cause the guy ended up in his boxers. LOL He was a cutie from Canada too. :) We also had to tell jokes once in a while, and everyone loved my joke. :)

Q: What did the egg say to the boiling water???
A: I may not get hard. I just got laid yesterday!!!

LOL! (Thanks for telling me that one, Brenda! It's been very useful. :)

It might have been more hilarious, since everyone was a bit tispy. :)

Well, I leave Adelaide in the morning at 6:30am!! This'll be an interesting trip on my way to Alice Springs (the middle of Australia). So, I'm trying to get in one last journal before I lose the internet for a bit. I hope all of ya'll are doing okay! I really really REALLY can't wait to see you again!!!! Awwwwwwwwwww :).... shucks...

Hey, ya'll! Life's going pretty good. However, I'm totally going to be roughing it (at least my version of roughing it) the next week or so. Sydney was pretty cool. I was there for about 3 nights, during that time I toured the Oprah House, walked across the Harbour Bridge, walked around the city, visited Darling Harbour and the aquarium there, took the ferry to random spots, and, of course, tasted a bit of the night life. All in all it was a cool city. But I definitely prefer Melbourne, which is where I'm at now and have been since Friday morning. The first night here I met the kid that I met in Tasmania (who works here) and he introduced me to one of his friends, who happens to be from England (Alex). And I've actually seen Alex every night since. I also have seen my friend Eckhard. He was here for a couple of days, and I will meet him again in Adelaide. Also, yesterday the 2 friends of mine, whom I drove to Sydney with, are in Melbourne now, so I hung out with them last night, and two of their friends that have been in Melbourne for about a month. It's kinda cool meeting friends of friends of friends. LOL

Melbourne is supposed to be the most liveable city in the world (tied with Montreal, Canada). They have very good transportation and it's pretty cheap too. The night life is really good, as well. Right now, I'm at this really spiffy internet cafe not far from my hostel. It's like a bar/internet cafe. Couches everywhere, and about 10 computers on one side of the room. Lots of groovy music too. And if you buy an alcoholic beverage at the bar u get 40 minutes of internet free. Which is what I am taking advantage of now. :)

Just curious if everyone has received the e-mails about the party at my house? I hope you can come! August 7th, 6pm! Let me know if you are going or call mi casa. My dad told me Marie called the other day! YAY for Marie!!! :) :) :)

G'day, mates! I am a day away from Sydney! YAY! On my way down from Brisbane we drove through the Gold Coast and had lunch on the beach! We spent the night in Byron Bay for a 2 nights, picked up a couple of guys. LoL! Had a blast! There was this hike up to the light house, so we drove to the parking lots there, and then Matthias and I took the trail along the beach back to our hostel. We saw dolphins and a whale! (actually, we only saw the whale's splash, but we knew it was out there, so it's the thought that counts!) The day we left Byron Bay, we drove to Nimbin and had lunch there. This is the strangest hippy town ever! I mean seriously people will come up to you on the street and ask if you'd like to buy "cookies" LOL... or just straight out pot. haha. My goal was to be asked 21 times by the time we left, but we only got it up to 19. We did buy a few cookies though. HAHA.. They are sitll in my bag though. We haven't gotten around to trying them yet. It was just interesting being able to buy them. Lmao!

That night we spent the night at Coffs Harbour. It was an alright place, but the restaurant we ate at that night gave me food poisioning, so I was up at around 3:30am, and then again at 7:30am, sitting in the bathroom stall. YUCK! And it just made my soar throat much worse. But by the time we hit the road I was feeling much better, and it was just my stupid soar throat that was killing me. But it was a lovely scenic drive. We drove on this route called Waterfall Way. Has places you can stop along the highway that overlook a couple waterfalls. Very forresty too. We stopped in the smallest town I have ever been in of about 40 people, and had lunch at the local bar. Good timing too because some of the local farmers were stopping by for an afternoon beer. It was pretty funny. The bartender was a nice guy. He got a kick because all of us in the car were from different countries.

We spent the night in the "country town of Australia" aka. Tamworth. That was an alright hostel......... but we went to the grocery store and came back to the hostel and cooked us dinner.

And tonight we are in Newcastle about 200km from Sydney. It was a a cool ride out here because we were driving through Hunter Valley, which has a whole lot of vineyards. We stopped at one of the vineyards, and had a bbq with some hamburgers we had bought earlier at their picnic area, and then went in for some wine tasting. :) yummy stuff! We will drive the rest of the way to Sydney after we walk around this city a bit in the morning.

That's all the time I have to write! But basically that's what has been going on with me. Hope ya'll are doing well! MISS YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!

Hey! Here's a quick little fix for Marie!!!!!

Moved out of UniLodge today. :( Kinda sad. But I am at my friends' apartment now. They are letting me keep my luggage here, while I travel around Australia. :) Spending one night here, and then Matthias (one of the flatmates here) is moving to Sydney, and we're going on a road trip down there with 2 other people that have an apartment in this complex. Then from there flying to Melbourne. I have a friend that lives there, so I will visit with him for a bit. And another friend of mine will be in Melbourne at that time (Eckhard), but he will leave for Adelaide with some tour, and I will fly there a couple days after he leaves, and I will meet him in Adelaide, and the following day go on a winery tour, and then a 6 day bus tour to Alice Springs (the middle of Australia, outback). And from there fly back to Brisbane, and stay here for about a week, then fly home. Those are my future plans....

I had my last exam last Monday. And the Sunday right before that I had come back from Tasmania! Tasmania was an awesome trip! I flew there with Patrick, and we were there for 4 days and 4 nights. We stayed in a hostel right in the city. The first full day we were there, we went on a tour of caves nearby and this cool tree walk thingy. The next day we walked around the town, and did a little bit of shopping. That night went to a pub. The next day went to this awesome market! I think it's supposed to be the best markets in all of Australia. From there, hopped on the tour bus again. And visited the Tasmanian penninsula and Port Arthur (convict place). It was a cool time. I will write more about it later. I need to get up and take a walk, before my eyes glue shut. :)

    <lj:music>RHCP - Under the Bridge</lj:music>

Greetings! It's is the middle of the night.... and I, having spent many years practicing my procrastination skills, am writing this journal instead of studying for my exam that's in 5 hours and is worth 60 freakin % of my final grade!!!! If only I had gone to the last half of this semester's lectures, but of course I didn't (It was too early in the morning) and am suffering with an all nighter. And then after the exam I will study all day for my next day's exam. And then a plane ride to Tassie! So, I won't be online for a few days till Sunday night (my time, yo!) I wonder when Starbucks is open b/c I am definately going to need a huge ass fix of caffine before the exam at 8. :(

Anyhow, I guess to make this a worthy entry, maybe I should say what I have been up to... ummm well not much... this and that, school and partying, leaning more towards partying. However, I did have an exam last Friday. I think I did quite alright, so I'm happy with that. I did see Dirty Dancing 2 last Thursday. It was very cute. And!!!!! I saw HARRY POTTER Sunday night! :) It was WONDERFUL! hehe... it's crazy, cuz every time I go to the theatre I always feel like I'm watching the movie at home. So, I always feel so good during the movie. It's a nice feeling to be home. :( But I am still loving being here. Most of the friends that I made here will be leaving soon. But I have made a couple Aussie friends. They say such weird things, like dooney (not sure if the spelling is correct) instead of comforter, and tart for an idiot, and fill-it instead of filet... it's crazy! And I have been trying to figure out all my plans for July b/c my lease ends for this apartment June 30th at 11am. So, where the heck am I going to live??? In the middle of figuring that out, but it will be alright cuz they said they can rent a spare room for me when I am in Brisbane and they can keep my 2 humongous bags in storage. (they are huge!!) I don't think they had any idea how much crap I have though, but it'll work out, maybe.

So, I think June 30 I will be spending a couple nights at my friends' apartment (Austrians) and then one of the flat mates, Matthias, is moving to Sydney b/c of a job, so I am helping him move down there and will spend a week or so in Sydney. And then I guess I will travel to Melbourne and then Adelaide and then Alice Springs (to visit a big red rock), and then back to Brisbane, and then fly from Brisbane to Cairns (cuz it feels absolutely wonderful there, even in winter, and i really want to go snorkelling again) So, I won't have internet except for when I'm at one of those internet places. I hope I am able to figure all these things out and what I will be doing. I will be travelling alone to everywhere but Sydney, but I will book a couple of tours or something. I suppose this is very good experience for me, to go up and just introduce myself to people next to me on the train or at a cafe.

Some bad news though... I'm not going to Singapore. I really really wish I was, but it didn't turn out. It's not really all that bad, since I will be travelling more around Australia, but I found out the other day that a girl that was studying at QUT from France passed in a car accident along with 2 other passengers, and another passenger was in the hospital with minor injuries. I don't see how that happens. How 3 people can just pass away like that, and one can survive with nothing but bruises or something sprained??? It makes no sense! I met her once at my friend's birthday party a month ago. And I feel really bad that I didn't talk to her, and I was actually jealous of her. Lots of people are feeling the same way, though. That they should have spent more time with her. Manuela (the b-day girl) hung out with her a couple times, and so did Matthias. I've never been able to handle death well. Well, I guess no one handles it well. It just shakes you up, and makes u take a step back.

I don't know what to say anymore, but I will try to update this more frequently, and not make u think I fell off the face of the earth. Hope everyone is doing well, and I miss you!

I have 2 minutes left to type something, before this machine reboots. (It's an Express Work Station) I went to an AFL game Saturday night! And The Brisbane Lions won. It was interesting.
I would like to tell you a story... a story about a girl and her Dr. Pepper...

It begins with a girl... lets call her Mary. Mary moved far far away from home. She missed her Dr. Pepper deeply. Everyday she would go to the grocery store, hoping... praying... that one day she would find it. It wasn't until the day before Wednesday, she had to go to the grocery store to prepare for a dinner with friends. She enters the pop (and crisps) isle... low and behold she spots it! Staring down at her from the top shelf.

She takes the first Dr. Pepper she sees off the shelf, and stares at it, wondering if it's really true. Could it be?

It is! The label... it's really there! She kisses the bottle in happiness!

She pays for the Dr. Pepper and her other items at the check out, and they live happily ever after!

:) THE END :)

It's been a few days since I updated my journal, so here I am! I had a dodgy exam on Tuesday, but the craziest thing happened! I actually answered the first quetion right away! (that's not the crazy part), but the 2nd question stumped me. Then the fire alarm came on! And the prof. told us to stay in our seats and to continue with the exam. But then the fire alarm machine voice told everyone to evacuate the building. So, the teacher had to reschedule the exam for this upcoming Tuesday. So, it gives me more time to put off studying. :) However, I have another exam this Saturday. SATURDAY! That's a pretty evil thing to do.
Well, Rose left yesterday morning. :( It felt really weird not having her here, especially since I saw her everyday for the past 10 days! But I think I will live.... maybe, although I am kind of bummed. But tonight I am going out, and hopefully, will have a great time! And after the exam, I may go over to a new friend of mine's apartment, and then that night there's a birthday party back at my place. YAY!
I'm in the computer lab now, printing out a few things. I should make my way over to class, I think I may get some coffee or a smoothie... mmm... that sounds good. :) BE GOOD!

PS: I've been uploading new pics to my fotki website. So check em out, hoes!!!!!!!!! :) (I still have many more to upload though)

Today was quite nice. I got to sleep in! :) And then I showed Rose the more quiet side of Brisbane. We crossed the river and headed to South Bank where there are markets on the weekend. She found some cute things, and I bought a couple things for my friends too. Then, we sat down at one of the cafes and bought some yummy smoothies. After that, we made a somewhat bad mistake of seeing Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. That movie was just a little too dorky for us, if you can imagine that. LoL We had dinner after the movie at one of these places where you can sit outside by the sidewalk. It was really good. We were there for a while, having dinner and then coffee. "We were planning on going out to a club tonight, but neither of us were up to it. Plus I'm working on a presentation right now that's due on Monday. The girl I'm presenting it with is coming over tomorrow so we can finish it up. We only had 2 weeks to work on it. So, I'm not really doing it last minute. I promise!

OH!!! It was drizzly today, and I got to see a rainbow! My first Australian rainbow. :) Rose was staring right at it, and didn't see it, but I know it was there. I think it was, anyway.

    <lj:music>Incubus - Warning</lj:music>

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....

Just got back from an interesting journey today. It started off on Tuesday with a train ride north to Miriam Vale at 6pm, got there at 1:30am... Anyone spent the night at a train station before? Outside? Yea... It was a sucky experience, but that was the only low point. Once the taxi came at 7:30am, and we got to the hotel, everything was cool. The hotel was very nice. The town was very small. But cute.

Gettin to that town was nuts though. The whole point of going there was for the reef jet tour. The woman that booked it told us that at that time we were the only 2 booked for it, so she said if there weren't enough people she would have to cancel it. So, I didn't want to buy tickets for the train ride out there just yet, in case it would be canceled. We called the Monday before, and she said everything was fine. We tried to find tickets for a train that left on Wed.... but the only thing available was the train ride on Tuesday, which meant we could either sleep at the train station (which was hardly a train station) or spend 85 bucks on an extra night at that hotel. We opted for the sleeping at the station. Neither of us wanted to fall asleep though because it was pretty creepy.

Anyhow, when we finally got to our hotel. I called the reef jet tour people, and they told me the trip was canceled due to the weather being too windy. I was thinking "WTF?" "We came all this way for nothing" But I found another reef jet tour that had room available for us, so we booked that and also booked 2 intro. dives.

Well, I just wrote my mom a decent description of what happened yesterday, and since I'm gettin sleepy, I'm going to copy/paste most of it.

"The reef jet tour was awesome. The trip out there was really tough though. So much wind and waves.... it would have helped if I had taken the Dremamine [motion sickness pills] earlier, but I felt great on the way back. I know what Keith meant now when he was telling me about his trip out there. I threw up twice! It got so bad, I was wishing my mommy was there. :( But I am also proud to say I was the first person on the boat to get sick. :) So, I felt a little out of it when we finally arrived at the reef.

Scuba diving was Rose and I's first activity. We tried really hard to do it, but we ended up scratching the diving and getting 50% of our money back for the lesson. Which wasn't too bad when you think about it, since we did get the whole outfit on and was breathing under water. It was just once he was teaching us some of the lessons that we both were like 'what did we get ourselves into'. So, we got ourselves out of it as soon as we could. I think my problem was that he had to move really fast, I am more of a 'take it easy' and 'teach me slowly' person. I have to make sure I understand everything when it comes to diving before I can move on to the next step. So, I would love to try this again, but just over a longer period of time.

Our next activity was lunch. :) Then we took a boat over to an island that is in the middle of the reef, and walked around it, and then went snorkeling. Snorkeling is the best, mom! You will love it! I took some pictures under water, but I'm not sure how they will turn out. This was the first time I ever went snorkeling. And I learned all by myself. I wish I could have snorkeled longer, we had fins on and everything. It was great! Then it was back to the mainland. I was drugged up on Dremamine, so I felt quite fine on the way back, even though it was still pretty bumpy :)"

We left on a bus this morning from the town, and arrived in Brisbane at 6:30pm. On our way home, instead of deer crossing the road, Australians have to watch out for kangaroos. There was a family of kangaroos (or maybe they were just friends) crossing the road on our way to pick up the bus. The woman almost hit one too. But she slowed down just in time. Rose Anne and I both thought everything looked like Indiana, at least whenever we saw a cow farm. Lol, but there was no corn/soy bean fields. :(

I think about Indiana and Texas all the time! I miss everyone so much!

Happy Easter!!! There was, of course, lots of people at mass today. But it was very nice, and I liked the choir. After that we walked around a bit, and we also saw the movie Win a Date with Tad Hamilton. Both guys were sooooo hot! :) Then we went to Starbucks, and also Mackers. LoL. And I got fries!! YAY! Right now we're watching Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis: A Life on tv. Tomorrow is the zoo day!!!!! <lj:music>Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved</lj:music>

It is night time. And I think I'm going to be sleepy soon. Rose got here early this morning. I woke up early, got on the 8:30 train to the airport, and I met rose there. She got off that plane really fast, so she had to wait for me for about 5 minutes, so it wasn't too bad. We took a taxi back to my apartment. We decided to not do too much today, but we were both hungry, so we got some lunch at a food court nearby and then went grocery shopping. OOOH! I got presents from home too! :) Rose's mom gave me a DVD and we watched that tonight. I also got some crayons, some music, books, clothes, ranch, ketchup, and other goodies... (LIKE TWIZZLERS!) We also made pasta for dinner. I can cook pasta now. I'm really learning how to cook! Brenda and Kristen, I will cook delicious pasta for ya'll! (I still do have that naughty pasta, that Kristen gave me for my b-day) LoL

Tomorrow is EASTER!! YAY! I can eat fries then right?? Or do I have to wait for Monday? I get so confused about that. Mass will be at noon, and then it will be another laid back day, since everything is closed. I hope you have a great Easter Weekend!!!

<lj:music>the weather (i think good morning america is on at 4:32 am!)</lj:music>

Tonight was pretty cool! There was a party downstairs on the balcony. Music and friends (including cute guys) and alcohol. haha... I went down there with my bottle of water in hand, and before I know it there was a vodka orange instead... and then some box wine after that. lol and some shot in bt/n. but that's all i had! it was cool. met a couple new people. And i also was the first person to break a wine glass... i felt pretty bad. but "no worries" about 5 people helped me pick up the pieces, and the host (who was responsible for all of us) just laughed and helped picked it up.

This guy was also one of the people I saw on the way to the Incubus concert. I didn't think he was going to turn out to be a pretty nice person. Because after all the drinking and dancing on the balcony. We were told to go in to the lounge and there Inge and Mark (not Dallas Mark, this Mark is from Singapore and is going out with one of the Australians here, Meg.) had brought down their guitars, and we had a fun time singing and being dorks. I took a few pics too. And the guy I mentioned earlier his best mate here is this guy named Jim??? At least that's what it sounds like when people say it. He was taking pics on his digital camera. (this guy is also a bit intimidating, a big asian dude, with tattoos, and all that stuff) He turned out to be a pretty cool guy too. Cause after everyone left the other guy finally figured out I was American (he thought I was from Australia) LOL and then he got all in to American Politics, so I basically listened, this guy is crazy, but he's pretty cool. (He was born in London, lived there for 10 years, moved to Singapore and lived there for 7 and now comes here) He was also a little drunk, so he was talking a lot! I thought it was crazy. Anyhow, just wanted to share my night. I think I feel a lot closer to the Aussie group here. My German peeps all left today I believe, on their separate jouneys.

OH MY! I also forgot to mention this guy I talked to some tonight. He's from Australia and is such a cutie. Great jeans too! (LOL MARIE!) His name is Makayal... that's probably not how u spell it though. I've seen help a couple times before but never really talked.

And also! Remember the Matt from Princeton guy? He got so completely trashed tonight! He's kinda of an ass and really weird when he's drunk. I mean he ended up peeing on Makayal's pants... it was weird. don't ask. Anyhow he does look hot without his shirt on, but I don't know how I feel about his peeing thing.

Well, I have a lot of things to do tomorrow. And I have to wake up in a couple hours. arghhhh.... Remind me to go to bed early. Please??? hehe thanks ya'll!

(sorry I didn't add any pics, Marie... hehe)

Hello out there! I think everyone needs an LJ fix, so here I am. :) Easter Break is coming up! YAY! And Rose Anne comes on Saturday at 8:10am!! I'm crazy excited! I have some pretty cool stuff planned, but I'll fill ya in on all that stuff when it happens.

I had a great Friday night! It was nuts. That was probably my favorite night out on the town. :) So, I must have been a little buzzed (tee hee hee, maybe more than a little) when I came back to my room, cause here are some dorky pics of me!

I didn't wear that hat that night, but it was in my closet, so I was goofing around with it. I'm such a nerd. LMFAO

I had a great convo with Marie the other night! Thanks, Marie, for letting me vent! You Rock!

MINI introduces VPL. (Vertical Parking Locator)
Introducing a revolutionary new technology from MINI (well known car maker in Australia)

The world's first Vertical Parking Locator (VPL). With VPL the MINI will be the first car in the world to be able to be parked vertically.
This technological breakthrough is the result of nine years of extensive research.

This technology works with the existing traction control (ASC+T), which electronically controls wheel spin under acceleration. VPL provides an extra sensory element which enables the tyres and wheels to literally cling to the side of designated buildings. The park distance control (PDC), a sonar device which allows the driver to know how far they are from other objects when they are parking, will be as effective whether the car is parked vertically or horizontally. Altitude will in no way inhabit the accuracy of the device.

MINI is working in conjunction with local councils and architectural heritage trusts to lease the side of buildings for exclusive parking
MINI satellite navigation system (GPS), which, along with navigation drivers throughout the country and metropolitan areas will also be able to find these exclusive parks.

More specific information about VPL is available from Dr. Uve Beenhad at MINI Australia.
_______________________
The Advertiser - Apr 2003
