Are you going to be flying into the US today? Or know someone who will? Please pass along the new security measures such as: The US Department of Transportation has revised its security arrangements for all passengers flying into the US from other countries. This includes 100 per cent secondary screening of all US-bound passengers and their hand luggage before boarding. The normal requirement is 10 per cent secondary search.
Also, the DOT is only allowing one carry-on. This means you have to choose your purse or your hand luggage now. I would expect more adopting of that in the coming week.
And remember, please don't get mad at the airline employees. The front-line employees have nothing to do with new security procedures being implemented. Don't scream at them, please.
Basically, no matter where you're flying prepare for extra security, chaos, no information, ever changing regulations, and obey the regulations, no matter now stupid they may seem. And because of these new security regulations, there's going to be downturn in air travel. I guess I should expect that furlough/layoff soon, right?
ETA:This has been posted on several airline websites now (including aircanada, british airways):
New rules imposed by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration also limit on-board activities by customers and crew in U.S. airspace that may adversely impact on-board service. Among other things, during the final hour of flight customers must remain seated, will not be allowed to access carry-on baggage, or have personal belongings or other items on their laps.
